From now to the end of our South American adventure, we are moving fast. We’re fitting a lot in, navigating poor weather and bug swarms, and addressing Jeep issues. But I’m getting ahead of myself! In this episode, we cross the border from Argentina to Chile. It’s arguably our most beautiful border crossing ever, over the Andes Mountains past lakes and ice fields.

As we drive south, closer to the northern border of Patagonian Chile, here are some of the challenges and experiences we encounter:
- After our border crossing and lots of driving, our campground doesn’t work and we have to push to a farther option
- Since Chile took the last of our fresh food at the border, we nearly starve on our border crossing day!
- Our electrical system goes down like it did in mid-2023 in Ecuador, but right when our battery is about to take some major damage, a stranger arrives and saves the day in a surprising way
- We tackle our most complex repair ever, just the two of us at camp (in 95-degree weather)
- We enter Chile’s lake region, considered the northern edge of Patagonia; this is where we’ll spend Christmas (but our rental is not what we expected)

What’s new?
In real-time, we have finished our South America overlanding journey and placed our Jeep in storage. Our next continent is Africa! For now, we are resting, planning, and seeing loved ones. And we are catching up on YouTube! As I mentioned at the start, our last few weeks in South America were full and honestly exhausting! But there were magical moments, and we can’t wait to share it all with you through our videos. Stay tuned.
