With Ushuaia in the rear-view mirror, we are heading north for the first time in years! It is time to drive back up South America (spoiler: huge task) and get our Jeep to Montevideo. But we aren’t quite done sight-seeing yet! In this episode, we venture to a stunning glacier in Argentina’s largest national park. We also camp within sight of the famous Fitz Roy!
Watch now:
This gorgeous glacier is Perito Moreno, located near the town of El Calafate. The weather is harsh here, even at the height of summer. To escape the cold and wind, we get a hotel for three nights.
Back in the Jeep, it’s onto El Chaltén, known as the trekking capital of Argentina for its proximity to Fitz Roy and the accompanying mountain range. It is stunningly beautiful here. Unfortunately, I’m not feeling well and don’t have enough energy for hiking. Not only that, but it’s our windiest night in Patagonia and Eric hardly gets a wink of sleep. It’s not just our tent flapping. The whole Jeep is rocking back and forth!
Weather aside, we are grateful we got to see this beloved region of Argentina, which is located just east of the Andes (we were on the west side of the Andes as we descended the Carretera Austral in Chile). Now it’s time to put on some kilometers: nearly 3,000 kilometers from El Chaltén to Montevideo.
What’s new with Hourless Life?
As we conclude our time in Mexico, we’ve hopped on a couple of buses to revisit cities we’ve enjoyed in the past. As a reminder, we’re living out of backpacks for these 10 months away from the Jeep, so we’re pretty nimble. We spent a week in Morelia (capital of Michoacan) and now we’re in San Luis Potosí for 9 nights.
Today is our last full day not only in Mexico, but in Latin America. We will miss this region we’ve called home since 2021. We are so grateful to the countless people who have welcomed us, taken care of us, and taught us.
I’m reminded of the Instagram reel I made in 2022, when we were leaving Mexico to drive into Belize:
Thank you.
