Torrential Rain in Namibia’s Desert | Sossusvlei and Spitzkoppe (Video)

I never pictured flooding roads and high water crossings when I thought of Namibia. But that’s where we unexpectedly found ourselves on our way to famous Sossusvlei. In our latest video:

• The flooded road stretches to the horizon and we don’t know if we’ll get bogged down in the softening sand
• Caspian spontaneously hikes a 170-meter sand dune all by himself
• We see the petrified camelthorn trees of Deadvlei’s clay pan
• We learn about kapana, a traditional meat experience in Namibia
• We camp at Spitzkoppe, known as the “Matterhorn of Namibia,” and Caspian does an untraditional Easter egg hunt there.

This is where we are in Namibia now:

We are wrapping up 24 days at the same campground. It’s an unprecedented amount of time for us. While we’ve had Airbnb stays for longer than 24 days along the way (albeit rarely), we can’t think of another time we camped for so long. The longest I remember was 13 nights in Valle de Anton, Panamá, where we filmed our Ultimate Walk-around Tour of the Jeep and I ate a ton of eggplant pizza at La Divina Commedia. That was good pizza.

I am beyond ready to get back to exploring. But this time has been useful for catching up on projects like our YouTube videos, and also saving money because we haven’t been buying fuel.

Our next stop is the capital of Namibia: Windhoek. We need to do a little bit of shopping for random things we haven’t been able to find elsewhere in Namibia. Then it’s back to exploring remote places. Before long, we’ll get to visit our first national park in Namibia, Etosha. Our campgrounds are already booked and I’m super excited.
