Things are about to get crazy. We’ve taken three ferries to access the main stretch of Chile’s Carretera Austral, one of the most famous roads in the world among adventure travelers. We are more remote than perhaps we’ve ever been. And at the end of our longest travel day ever that drops us at a gravel parking lot at 3 a.m. so we can finally sleep, we find an electrical system failure has led to no power in our habitat.
Watch now:
That’s not all. Caspian falls about 10 feet off a bridge into a rocky, brush-filled stream, and Eric gets pulled from the Jeep in our most aggressive military checkpoint of the whole trip so far.
I’ve really been wanting to share this footage with you. With this video and the ones that come next, you’ll understand better why we changed plans and ended up coming to Mexico to rest for a while. Heck, I understand better when I look back and see what we experienced. At the time, we were in survival mode!
You should fasten your seatbelt for this video.
What’s new at Hourless Life?
In real-time, we are still in Mexico. We expect to be here exactly two more months, with a quick trip to Seattle in July to meet our first granddaughter!
Some exciting news: Caspian just published his first book! If his creative efforts interest you, we’d really appreciate your support. Our patrons can get the ebook for free with their membership, and everyone else can purchase the PDF file for only $3. All proceeds go to Caspian’s college fund.
Did you know you can join our Patreon for free? We have something coming up for all our members–free and paid. By signing up at the free level, you’ll have access to the updates right around the corner. Don’t miss out! Sign up here.
If you enjoy reading about overland travel (I guess you do because you’re here), then check out my recent book review. It’s about Forever Off Track, which tells the origin story of Karin-Marijke Vis and Coen Wubbels. They are two of the most accomplished overlanders of our time, and it’s a gift to read about how they started.
Thanks for being part of our journey.
