In early 2022, a few months after we began our drive around the world, I started writing a blog article about the things we wish we’d known before we started overlanding full-time. The article was getting so long that I expanded it into my first ebook–a goal I’d been putting off for years. I revised the ebook this year, after we finished driving 30,000+ miles through Mexico, Central America, and South America. I’m excited to share the ebook re-release with you!

I say in the prologue that if you’re willing to apply the lessons we learned the hard way, then you will save money, stay safer during your travels, and be prepared mentally for the challenges that are a natural part of overlanding.
To give you an idea, here are the first five chapter titles:
- Stuff is a sad substitute for experience
- Stuff is a sad substitute for hands-on training
- Payload capacity doesn’t go away if you ignore it
- Overlanding involves intentional self-deprivation
- Logistics involved (can’t play constant tourist)
If nothing else, you’ll enjoy this book for its sheer entertainment value at our expense, as we share the stories behind HOW we learned all these lessons.

But in all seriousness, these are important principles I wish someone had laid out for me when we started our overland journey in 2018. Even though we had been traveling full-time by RV since February 2014, overlanding was a different animal in important ways.
As we share the lessons we learned, we explain how we worked through them, with tips and resources you can apply to your own adventure.

Two ways to read the ebook
- Purchase for $5: download the ebook and read it as many times as you like
