Captain’s Remarks

Had a nice final night in Arlington, TX. Got to eat at one of my favorite restaurants in the area, Mariano’s Mexican near Six Flags Over Texas. Not only that, but we got to do it with new RV friends Rich and Carolyn Sasek. Had a nice time with them but had to call it an early night as we had a long day ahead of us.

07:00 – Woke up, made preparations to get underway.

08:50 – Jacks up, headed out. Forgot that we left the antenna up, but realized it before anything catastrophic happened while we were still in the RV park in Arlington, TX

10:20 – Stopped for diesel fuel at a LOVES Truck Stop on I-20 W. Paid $3.78 per gallon, and spent $125.00.

12:00 – Arrived at the Walmart parking lot in Brownwood, TX. Parked Meriwether and took Smaug out to scout for RV parks with wi-fi signal. We checked out 5 local area RV parks. None were particularly impressive and none had a Verizon signal strong enough for our work week. AT&T signal is fairly weak varying between 1 and 3 bars depending on how the wind blows. Stopped for lunch at Whataburger.

13:40 – Made a decision to stay at G-Country RV park just north of Brownwood on Hwy 183. Though our Verizon signal is non-existent, the AT&T tethering on our new plan is working fine. Thankful to have a “Plan B” for our work week.

14:50 – Got parked and set in site #6 at G-Country RV park. Lo and behold the campground wi-fi is fantastic! Not only are we not going to have to worry about our work week, we actually have fast enough free wi-fi to watch streamed movies!

Brittany took off to go grocery shopping. I put down our outdoor carpet and chairs and extended all of our awnings. It is supposed to get up to 100 degrees this week.

All in all, though we were initially frustrated with the wi-fi situation, we ended up being pretty darn blessed. We’re expecting Timothy, my brother-in-law, to stop by tonight and hang out for a bit.

Glad to be settled in for another week. Our journey is still surreal. ~ E

Navigator’s Addendum

17:29 – Though we used the Internet to research our RV park options in Brownwood, TX, there wasn’t enough information available to determine what the Internet connectivity was. Since it was a relatively short drive from Arlington to Brownwood, we decided to arrive as early as possible, to leave ourselves time to scope out the parks in person.

Five RV parks later…we decided on the best of not very impressive options. We caught a space with shade (one of the few shaded sites in the park), but there’s no picnic table and the whole park is mostly gravel. Oh well, at least I’m close to my brother and it looks like our Internet connection will do.

Cleaned the fridge after grocery shopping (a quick job! perk of a smaller fridge) and I’m ready to crack open a cold drink and relax with a book! Eric is enjoying Netflix in the background. It’s fun to have a wifi-enabled TV that can connect to all kinds of apps easily. -B
