Are you ready for our biggest overlanding adventure yet? In 12 years of full-time vehicle travel, we’ve never been pushed to our limits like this. In our latest video, we embark on a seven-day journey in Botswana across Moremi Game Reserve, Khwai, and Chobe National Park.
It’s seven days without refueling of water, groceries, or petrol (gasoline). We are absolutely pushed to our limits with water crossings, unfenced camps with predators like lions and hyena, and countless elephant encounters that put us on the defensive. After a devastating rainy season earlier in the year, parts of Moremi and Khwai are still underwater, requiring detours through the bush.
Watch now:
When was the last time you felt really challenged and outside of your comfort zone? That place is where we grow, but we have to open ourselves up to the learning opportunity. You’ll see us going through that process in real time in this video. We may have more than a decade of overland experience, but Africa is another animal (pun intended).
We are contending with another factor, which is Eric’s physical condition. He had a flareup of his chronic pain right before this trip and we discussed canceling the whole thing. Though we chose to go for it, that choice would have consequences later.

When you travel full-time, you don’t have the luxury of planning around things like this. All the “normal life” challenges we all go through–things like breakdowns and medical problems–have to be incorporated into day-to-day life, no matter which unexpected place we find ourselves.
We are trying something new in this video! You’ll have to leave a comment on YouTube and tell us whether you like it. We’re trying documentary-style, sit-down interviews where we reflect on the crazy things we experienced as we drove through Moremi, Khwai, and Chobe. Even Caspian participates to tell us what the trip was like for him!
Thank you for joining us on this journey.
