We spent five months driving through Colombia, but Valle de Cocora deeply impacted us with its quiet, natural beauty. It is arguably the most stunning place in Colombia. Taken together with the neighboring town of Salento, this was an incredible region to visit.
Yes, we’re back after an extended absence from YouTube! We spent the past two months visiting family in the U.S. and instructing at Overland Expo West. It was our first visit back to our home country in 18 months, during which time we drove through Mexico, all of Central America, and started our South American adventure.
But now we are excited to get back to sharing our drive around the world through video. We’re starting strong with this episode about the town of Salento in Colombia’s coffee region and Valle de Cocora, home to the tallest palm trees in the world.

What’s next?
The events in this video took place March 17-23, 2023. In our next video, we’ll take you into the Tatacoa Desert, which turned out to be the muddiest desert we’ve been to!
In real time, we just returned from the United States and are in northern Ecuador near Quito. We have two-and-a-half weeks left on the original, 90-day temporary import permit (TIP) for our Jeep. We’re hoping to renew the TIP to match our personal visas. Then we’ll have another two-ish months to explore beautiful Ecuador.
Much more to come! Thanks for being part of our journey.
