It’s been an incredible year. On New Year’s Day 2022, we woke up in Morelia, Mexico. Tonight we’re going to sleep in Bogotá, Colombia. The craziest part: we drove between the two. In 2022, we explored nine countries spanning two continents. Along the long way, we sacrificed time (and occasionally our sanity) to fulfill the last component of our family mission statement: Love. Explore. Study. Share.
We share in many ways and places, including Patreon, YouTube, Instagram, and other social media platforms. But our online home base is here: the Hourless Life blog. We published a total of 66 articles this year. Here are the 10 you read the most.
10/ Complete walk-around tour of the Jeep Gladiator that’s taking us around the world
If we were smarter, we would’ve chosen a place in the middle of nowhere to film this complicated video tour of our Jeep Gladiator. Instead, we chose the back lot of a hostel in the middle of a Panamanian town. While trying to keep all the product names straight and make sure we didn’t miss anything, we were surrounded by the noise of truck engine brakes, hammering, and even the wind chimed in. It’s a miracle we got the video filmed.
But we don’t regret the challenge! You’ve told us how much this video helped you see the big picture of our build and apply the lessons to your own projects. We put seven years of full-time travel experience into this vehicle and we’re always happy to answer your questions.

9/ Master Map of our travel content
This resource is always improving. It’s a Master Map of our best content since we started traveling the United States full-time in 2014. Zoom in on the map and click any pin to be directed to YouTube videos, articles, or Instagram posts. We hope this map inspires you to travel more in 2023.
8/ The mysterious pyramids of Teotihuacán
We were taught the pyramids at Teotihuacán in Mexico were built by the Aztecs. Even Eric thought that, and he’s half Mexican! So when we actually went to tour the pyramids, our worlds were turned upside down.
7/ Defining our parenting philosophy
Our parenting choices are questioned all the time. When we were preparing to overland interior Mexico for the first time in 2018 (when Caspian was only one-year-old), people even called us bad parents. After receiving many comments and questions, some well-meaning and others not so much, we put together this article about our parenting philosophy. We hope it empowers you to defy the fearmongers and set out for territory unknown with your little humans.
6/ What we wish we’d known before overlanding full-time
To-date, this is one of the best resources we offer on our blog, and it’s completely free. We’ve now been traveling full-time by vehicle for almost nine years. This ebook shares the lessons we’ve learned the hard way. Do yourself a favor and get your copy now! In the coming year, only our Patreon supporters will have access.
5/ Pan-American Highway overlanders to follow
Now that COVID travel restrictions are almost non-existent in the Americas, so many overlanders have taken to the Pan-American Highway, which is the longest motorable road in the world. This article shares 15 inspiring overlanders you can follow on Instagram. We’ve been making a list of other people we need to add, so be watching for an update in 2023.
4/ How we afford to travel full-time
We wrote this exhaustive guide not for the curious, but for those who are willing to do the hard work for themselves. We share transparently about how we could afford to start traveling full-time in 2014, how we sustained our travels for seven years in the United States, and how we evolved to begin our international overland journey in 2021.
Beyond what we’ve done personally, we also share big-picture resources to help you on your own journey. Like every topic, we’re always willing to answer your finance-related questions.
3/ How much did it cost to build our Jeep?
Talk about getting personal. In this article, we crunch the numbers and reveal the monetary value of our Jeep Gladiator build.
2/ Full-time overlanding families traveling internationally
This is our second-most popular article of 2022. These seven families have left their home countries with their children to travel the world full-time. Talk about inspirational!
1/ Crossing the border into Honduras
Here it is, folks. Our most-read article of 2022! In this post and accompanying video, we share our land border crossing into Honduras. For some reason, this topic really peeked your interest! Maybe it’s because of all the rumors surrounding Honduras and how dangerous it is to visit.
Thank you for being part of our drive around the world
It’s been a wonderful year, full of challenges, personal growth, natural beauty, and surprises. We couldn’t be more grateful for your support and encouragement along the way. Here’s to 2023!
